PPO Plan Participants

The PPO plan from the Trust gives both actively working UA Local 32 members and non-Medicare retirees access to the vast Aetna network, with the flexibility to see any provider you like, and access to no-cost quality care from Vera Whole Health. Aetna PPO Network

Aetna is the Trust’s Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) nationwide. Participants have access to the Choice POS II extended and flexible network of providers. Your Aetna coverage includes:

  • Medical services, including physician and hospital services

  • In-network preventive benefits covered at 100%

  • Behavioral health and chemical dependency services

  • Medical supplies and equipment

  • Beginning Right, a maternity management program

  • Virtual and telephonic visits, and more

The Choice POS II network of physicians and other healthcare professionals provides members and their eligible dependents with efficient, cost-effective services and supplies at discounted rates. Although you may see any provider that you choose, you may incur higher costs by going out of network.

Vera Whole Health

Vera Whole Health is the Seattle Area Plumbing & Pipefitting Industry Health Plan’s primary clinic for PPO participants and their covered dependents (age 3 and older). Offered as a compliment to your existing PPO plan coverage, care you receive at Vera is free to you – without a copay, coinsurance or deductible to meet!

Vera is your first stop for quality and timely care. With Vera you get the following and more:

  • More time with your doctor – longer appointments allow you to ask questions and understand your test results

  • Preventive care – annual whole health evaluation, immunizations, screenings, well women exams, family planning

  • Chronic disease management – for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or depression

  • Acute care – coughs/colds, wound care, sprains and strains, rashes, urinary tract infections, back pain

  • Health support services – Health coaching, onsite labs, provider-dispensed medications, specialty care coordination and advocacy

  • Virtual care – connect with your care team from anywhere

You can visit a Vera location even if you already have a primary care provider that is not with Vera. The Vera medical team can provide treatment to you no matter who you see outside the care center. For more information download the Vera Whole Health Welcome Packet.

PPO Prescription Coverage

The Trust offers prescription coverage via CVS/Caremark to plan participants in three convenient ways: Retail Pharmacy, Mail Order Pharmacy and Specialty Pharmacy. Please see your Summary Plan Description booklet for full details.

Retail Pharmacy

For new medications you should use your Member ID card at a participating retail pharmacy. When you visit an in-network CVS/Caremark pharmacy, your costs are:

  • Generic medications: $8.00

  • Brand medications: $40.00

  • Non-preferred brand: $55.00

Please note costs are higher if you go out of network.

Mail Order Pharmacy

For maintenance medications for long-term or ongoing conditions, you will get the lowest cost when your prescription is filled via Mail Order. After your third fill you may order a 90-day supply through CVS/Caremark mail order pharmacy your costs are:

  • Generic medications: $20.00

  • Brand medications: $100.00

  • Non-preferred brand: $137.00

Specialty Pharmacy

For certain types of drugs known as Specialty Drugs you will need to use the CVS/Caremark Specialty Pharmacy. Specialty drugs are covered the same as formulary generic and brand name drugs. Non-formulary specialty drugs are excluded. If you are prescribed a self-injectable medication (excluding insulin) or oral medication for oncology or transplant you will need to purchase these through the specialty pharmacy. There is a specialty pharmacy mail order facility in Washington. The medications will be mailed to your home address or other address you choose to use.

Kaiser Plan Participants

The Kaiser HMO plan from the Trust is available as an alternative plan option for UA Local 32 members who are actively working as well as non-Medicare retirees. Kaiser Permanente Medical Network

Participants on the Kaiser Permanente of Washington plan have access to providers at Kaiser Permanente medical centers. Coverage includes:

  • Medical services, including physician and hospital services

  • Behavioral health and chemical dependency services

  • Medical supplies and equipment, and more!

Although you may see a provider outside of the Kaiser network, please note that you will incur much higher costs by going out of network because services may not be covered.

Kaiser Prescription Coverage

Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers have pharmacies across Western Washington and offer mail-order and online service options.

Kaiser Permanente has a list of medications called a “drug formulary,” which are covered through the plan. The list includes both generic and certain brand name drugs. If your physician determines that you need a particular medication for a drug that is not on the list your physician can request that it be covered, and Kaiser will review the request for approval.

Retiree Participants

Humana/RetireeFirst

Eligible participants who are on Medicare will enroll in a Trustee-designed Medicare Advantage plan through Humana/RetireeFirst. Plan participants should enroll for Medicare Parts A and B, as well as contact RetireeFirst the first month they become eligible to do so, usually 3 months before turning age 65.

RetireeFirst is a retiree benefits management solutions and advocacy service provider. RetireeFirst Advocates are US-based and available to help you navigate the complex retiree healthcare landscape and troubleshoot any issues you may have with your insurance carrier, provider’s office, and pharmacy.

RetireeFirst can also help you access other benefits such as home care insurance and hearing aids available through the plan.

Kaiser Senior Advantage

Kaiser Permanent’s Senior Advantage HMO Plan combines Kaiser Permanente coverage with Medicare coverage into a single plan. Like other Medicare Advantage Plans, Kaiser’s Senior Advantage gives you all the benefits of Medicare with many added benefits. Plus, you may also save money with Senior Advantage because you pay only copayments for services.

Non-Medicare Retirees

For retirees that are not eligible for Medicare the Trust offers UA Local 32 members access to the Aetna PPO plan at a subsidized self-pay rate, depending on eligibility.
